PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide stainless steel in which the three properties of corrosion resistance, and toughness and workability in a weld zone are simultaneously satisfied by the optimization of steel components. SOLUTION: The stainless steel has a componential composition comprising, by mass, <0.02% C,≤1.0% Si,≤1.5% Mn, 11 to 15% Cr, >1.0 to 2.5% Ni, <0.1% Al and <0.02% N in the ranges satisfying a prescribed equation.
