PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a water retention material for a water permeable constructional and architectural base material, its constituent body and a usage method, capable of providing stable water permeability and water retentivity throughout a long period with no hindrance to water permeability of the constructional and architectural water permeable base material, and lowering a surface temperature of the water permeable base material by using heat of vaporization due to transpiration of retained water. SOLUTION: The water retention material for the water permeable constructional and architectural base material is characterized by that a water absorption magnification is 5-1000 times, and favorably, a water absorption magnification of a water retention component included in the water retention material is 5-2000 times.
