BACKLIGHT FOR LIQUID CRYSTAL DISPLAY

PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a backlight for a liquid crystal display which prevents the retroflexion of a diffusion plate to obtain illumination without nonuniformity. SOLUTION: A direct-type backlight main body 10 consists of a plurality of juxtaposed fluorescent lamps 14, a housing 13 for storing the lamps and a diffusion plate 12 arranged to cover the opening of the housing. A plurality of ribs 15 are integrally formed on the lower surface of the diffusion plate made of a translucent resin. The ribs 15 arranged on the lower surface of the diffusion plate 12 are linear projections in parallel with the longitudinal direction of the plate 12. Thus, the strength of the plate 12 in the longitudinal direction is increased and the retroflexion of the diffusion plate 12 is prevented. COPYRIGHT: (C)2003,JPO
