PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an optical switching element which can have its optical switching area made as large as possible. SOLUTION: A support 5 (5R, 5L) is arranged outside a displacement area of a displacement plate 3, i.e., in the side of the displacement plate 3 and supports the displacement plate 3 without hindering its displacing operation. The displacement of the displacement plate 3 is not limited because of the presence of the support 5 and the whole displacement plate 3 can be displaced. Consequently, an area (optical switching area) in which a reflection factor to incident light can be varied is secured on the whole displacement plate 3, so the optical switching area can be maximized in terms of design.
