PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a sliding member having an excellent friction characteristic and capable of keeping the effect of improvement of the friction characteristic for a long time. SOLUTION: The synthetic resin of this sliding member comprises 0.1-50 mass% graphite, 0.1-15 mass% oil and the remainder of PTFE. This manufacturing method of the sliding member comprises: at least an application process for applying the synthetic resin to a porous layer; an impregnation process for impregnating and overlaying the applied synthetic resin into/on the porous layer; a baking process for baking the impregnated and overlaid synthetic resin; an oil including process for including oil in the synthetic resin; a sizing process for densifying the baked and oil-included synthetic resin and for sizing the sliding member. Thereby, the oil permeates into the synthetic resin through pores, and the oil is evenly dispersed in the entire synthetic resin by the oil- keeping characteristic of the graphite, so that the effect of improvement of the friction characteristic can be kept for a long time.
