PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To excellently send a film out of a film cartridge by securely engaging a spool of the film cartridge with a spool driving shaft. SOLUTION: The film cartridge 22 in which the single spool 22A is wound with the photographic film is used and the spool driving shaft 33A which is arranged slidably along an axis so that it can engages the spool 22A of the film cartridge 22 and energized with a spring in a direction wherein it engages the spool 22A is provided with an engagement detection switch 35 which detects the slide position of the spool driving shaft 33A, thereby detecting the spool driving shaft 33A and spool 22A engaging each other according to the output of the engagement detection switch 35. The spool driving shaft 33A is rotated at a low speed until the engagement detection switch 35 detects the engagement between the spool driving shaft 33A and spool 22A and then rotated at a standard speed after the engagement is detected.
