METHOD FOR PRODUCING SORBIC ACID

PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a method for producing sorbic acid while suppressing the formation of polymers in the cleavage of a sorbic acid ester to improve the yield of sorbic acid and reduce the consumption of an amine. SOLUTION: A polyester prepared from crotonaldehyde and a ketene is thermally cleaved in the presence of a solvent and an amine as a catalyst and simultaneously distilling out the formed sorbic acid and the solvent through a rectification column with reflux and using the solvent as the reflux.
