PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a process for spinning optical fibers at a high spinning speed wherein imperfect coating, which forces the production line to stop, is prevented from being caused while optical fiber spinning is started and the spinning speed is gradually accelerated until reaching steady operation. SOLUTION: When optical fiber spinning is started and the spinning speed is accelerated to a target speed, the radial thickness Y (μm) of a secondary coating is controlled so that its relationship with the spinning speed X (m/min) satisfies the inequality: Y≥0.015X-8.219, or the radial thickness Z (μm) of a primary coating is controlled so that its relationship with the spinning speed X (m/min) satisfies the inequality: Z≥0.011X-6.414.
