PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To form a coating film of uniform film thickness by using an easily adjustable coating device of a simple structure with excellent maintainability. SOLUTION: An edge plate 12 is attached to a die 11. A side part vertical surface of a height Dg is formed at the edge plate 12 and coating width is controlled. When defining a distance between the lip 14 of the die 11 and a web 15 as (h), the moving speed of the web as U and the film thickness of the coating film 19 as he, the height Dg is made larger than Db indicated by Db=1.03×h-1.50×he/U<SP>1/3</SP>+12800×he<SP>2</SP>×U. Since the side part vertical surface is present at a position where a bead 18 becomes thinnest, the contraction flow of coating liquid is suppressed and the film thickness of the coating film 19 becomes uniform.
