PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To stably and automatically draw the end of a preform by detecting the travel of the movable chuck or tail stock when the preform set in a glass lathe is heated and pulled and controlling the amt. of gas to be sent to the burner, the travel of the burner and the traveling speed of the tail stock based on the detected travel. SOLUTION: A preform 4 is set between a movable chuck 5 and a fixed chuck 8. A heating burner 6 movably mounted along a slide screw 9 is driven along the preform 4 by a driving motor 11 fitted with an encoder 10. The speed of the motor 11 is controlled by the output of the encoder 10, and the rotational amt. is fetched into a computer as a signal and multiplied by a gear ratio to obtain the travel of the tail stock 7. The amt. of gas to be sent to the burner 6, the travel of the burner 6 and the traveling speed of the tail stock 7 are controlled to the preset values based on the obtained travel. |
