PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an inexpensive interchangeable HDA (Head Disk Assembly) by providing an easily interchangeable configuration even among the interchangeable HDA whose servo format and data format or the like differ from each other. SOLUTION: This invention does not merely move a nonvolatile solid-state memory in a PCB (Package Board) in an HDD employing conventional technologies to the HDA, but newly provides a nonvolatile solid-state memory 21 to an interchangeable HDA 100-1, information such as the servo format is stored in the nonvolatile solid-state memory 21 in a manufacturing facility, when the interchangeable HDA is connected to a host device (a personal computer or a personal digital assistant PDA) and in use, the host device reads the information of the nonvolatile solid-state memory 21 in the HDA and updates a control program of a DSP (Digital Signal Processor) 33 and an HDC (Hard Disk Controller) in the PCB 300 of the host device so as to be compatible with the servo format or the like in the HAD thereby realizing servo control and data recording/reproduction.
