<p><P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To prevent occurrence of galling and seizure in a piston 13 and a cylinder bore 12 caused by a coating 18. <P>SOLUTION: A piston in a swash plate type compressor is improved in such a way that an external peripheral surface 13F of a columnar part 13A in the piston 13 is diametrically contracted by providing a tapered surface 13H and a chamfer part 13J in the most tip end side (rightward side).
