<p>A side impact airbag including a energetic tensioning device (27, 47) or connecting link, like and elasticated or sprung tether, between the front (24) and rear (25) sections with stored energy to create tension and pull the front and rear sections of the airbag together. Said devices is stored in the airbag module pack in an elastically extended form so that it creates tension in the airbag when released from its fixings in the airbag module pack.The tension that is created in the plane of the airbag by said tensioning device can be used to hold the airbag in its position relative to the vehicle and occupant and also to provide an additional restraining force to the one provided by the gas pressure.</p> |
