The mechanism to form a yarn reserve winding, at a bobbin winder, has a hook-shaped yarn reserve guide (5.1) with an additional possible movement in the closing (4.2) or release (4.3) direction of the yarn (3) on the reciprocating movement direction (4.1) of the yarn guide within the movement stroke length (H). The additional movement is through a path in a sliding block, which has three different path sections, which co-ordinate the movements of the yarn reserve guide in the movement directions. The yarn reserve guide can be placed in a rest position (6.1), a reciprocating movement position, a waste winding position, and in an intermediate yarn reserve winding position.
