An assembly introduces a micro-dose of a substance into a fluid using a micro-dosing assembly (4) and an adjacent, movable flexible substrate (2). The dosing assembly can be rotated about an axis (Z). The rotational movement discharges a pre-determined liquid dose from a dropper onto the substrate. An Independent claim is also included for the operation of the assembly, in which the substrate is positioned under the dosing assembly from time to time. The substrate comprises e.g. a series of panels or a strip of material fed from a reel (12, 13). The strip has sections which have different surface characteristics matching the liquid discharge. The surface characteristics are e.g. absorption, forming a matrix. The dosing assembly is e.g. a roller. The roller and substrate advance are regulated by an electronic control unit.
