PURPOSE: A search system having a metal detection function and a face recognition function and an operating method thereof are provided to detect person on the blacklist by performing rapidly and correctly a search process. CONSTITUTION: A search system includes a control unit(1), a door-shaped detector(2), a camera(3), a video signal processing unit(4), a comparison and search portion(6), a magnetic force generation unit(7), a magnetic force reception unit(8), an alarm generation unit(9), a monitor(12), a key input unit(13), and a power supply unit(14). The control unit controls operations of each element. The door-shaped detector is installed at a gate. The camera is used for photographing a face of a passenger. The video signal processing unit converts a video signal of the camera to a digital signal. The comparison and search portion compares the photographed face with face data of a database. The magnetic force generation unit and the magnetic force reception unit form the magnetic line of force. The alarm generation unit generates an alarm signal. The monitor is used for outputting faces of person on the blacklist. The key input unit controls selectively the controlling operations of each element. The power supply unit supplies necessary power to the each element.
