PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a polymer of a vinyl compound considerably enhanced in melt viscoelasticity or mechanical characteristics and a composite resin comprising the polymer of a vinyl compound excellent in various mechanical characteristics. SOLUTION: The polymer of a vinyl compound is obtained using a catalyst composed of an alkenylsilane-treated product (component A) obtained by treating a layered compound with an alkenylsilane and a metal complex (component B) of a group 4-6 or group 8-10 transition metal in the periodic table.
