PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an electronic controller which can restrain wasteful electric power consumption in start-up of an electronic control means other than the operation for a start-up means, so as to save electric power consumption. SOLUTION: A timer IC 3 is operated based on an electric power source for stand-by, and outputs a start-up signal for a micro-computer 2 in every time when a time under stopping of the micro-computer 2 reaches a prescribed time. A main relay 4 supplies an operation power source from an on-vehicle battery B to the micro-computer 2 when the start-up signal from the timer IC 3 is supplied to a relay coil 4a. In the start-up, the micro-computer 2 determines the start-up by the timer IC 3, conducts only one portion in a series of preset initial stage processings, and conducts only processing concerned in failure diagnosis for various kinds of components. That is, a signal output to an engine check lamp 7 and a monitor 8 is eliminated to conduct no lighting control for the engine check lamp 7 an the monitor 8. COPYRIGHT: (C)2003,JPO
