PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a method of forming an electrode by which the binding between an emissive element and a separator, and the binding between the separator and a holder are improved in a plasma torch. SOLUTION: A blank 61 composed of a comparatively non-emissive material is placed in a crucible 60 and the blank 61 is heated until the blank 61 becomes substantially fluidized. The emissive element 28 is made in contact with the blank 61 and further made forwarded until at least a part of the emissive element 28 is partially inserted into the blank 61. Thereafter the blank 61 and the emissive element 28 are cooled to form an assembly 88. In this process, an intermetallic compound 89 which strongly binds both parties 61 and 28 is formed between the both parties 61 and 28 in a short time. The assembly 88 is taken out of the crucible 60 and inserted into a cavity 24 of a columnar blank 94 with a press fit. The columnar blank 94 is machined into the form of a holder 16.
