PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a manufacturing method of an aliphatic polyester which has biodegradability, and a practically enough high molecular weight, and is excellent in a heat stability, tensile strengths and the like. SOLUTION: This polyester copolymer having an aliphatic oxycarboxylic acid unit of 0.02-30 mol% and a number-average molecular weight of 10,000-200,000 is produced by reacting an aliphatic oxycarboxylic acid such as lactic acid, glycolic acid or the like, an aliphatic dicarboxylic acid such as succinic acid or the like, with an aliphatic or an alicyclic diol such as ethylene glycol, 1,4-butanediol or the like in the presence of a catalyst and in the absence of an organic solvent.
