PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an electrophotographic photoreceptor which can give a good image even after repeated use and does not cause unsharpness of fine lines when used in printing after left standing in a high temperature and a high humidity atmosphere, and to provide a method for synthesizing silica microparticles used in the photoreceptor. SOLUTION: The electrophotographic photoreceptor is one containing silica microparticles in the layer forming the surface, wherein the silica microparticles comprises a condensate obtained by using at least dialkyldialkoxysilane and an alkyltrialkoxysilane as the materials to be condensed.
