METHOD FOR PRODUCING gamma-BUTYROLACTONE AND CATALYST FOR THE SAME

PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a method for industrially and advantageously producing γ-butyrolactone by oxidizing a 1,4-diol with hydrogen peroxide.

SOLUTION: This method for producing the γ-butyrolactone is to react the 1,4-diol with hydrogen peroxide in the presence of a metal oxide catalyst. The metal oxide catalyst is prepared by reacting at least one species selected from a group consisting of tungsten compounds and molybdenum compounds with hydrogen peroxide.
