PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide paper having antibacterial properties, and to provide a method for producing the paper. SOLUTION: This paper is obtained by having an antibacterial layer comprising polyvinyl alcohol and an antibacterial agent at least on a part of its principal surface. The method for producing the paper comprises coating an antibacterial solution containing polyvinyl alcohol and an antibacterial agent at least on a part of the principal surface.
