PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a recording and/or reproducing apparatus where a pinion gear moves a distance equivalent to a half of a slide stroke of a slide cover, so that the length of each rack gear is enough to be a half of the slide stroke of the slide cover. SOLUTION: The slide cover 4 has the rack gears 75, 81 and the pinion gears 52, 53 are interposed between and meshed with between the rack gears 75, 81 and rack gears 56, 56 provided in a side of an outer case 2 so as to be supported silidably.
