PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To correct dislocation by surely detecting the staff from musical score image data having lateral dislocation, and accurately detecting a line width and an interval of the staff. SOLUTION: This musical score recognizing device has a run width detecting means for detecting a run width of a black picture element and a white picture element by scanning the musical score image data in the right-angled direction to the staff, a detecting means for setting a detecting result as a staff position by detecting arrangement in a staff shape by making the run width of the black picture element and the white picture element coincide within a prescribed error to a reference run width, and the presence of a run of the white picture element having a large width, and a line width-interval detecting means for detecting the line width and the interval of the staff in the staff position, and has a shift quantity detecting means for recording a shift quantity by vertically shifting coordinates so that a rate becomes maximum when the rate of the black picture element becomes a prescribed value or less by scanning an adjacent picture element with a coordinate point included in the staff as a starting point, and an inclination correcting means for correcting the musical score image data on the basis of the shift quantity.
