PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a high-speed image sensor capable of realizing a reading speed in response to a resolution at a resolution switching time and to provide a photoelectric converter suitable for the image sensor. SOLUTION: The photoelectric converter comprises a photodetector array having a plurality of photodetectors arranged in a first resolution, a scanning means for driving by a first shift register drive pulse for reading the photodetectors of odd numbers of the array and a second shift register drive pulse for reading the photodetectors of the even number of the array, and a resolution switching means for switching the first resolution and a second resolution of 1/N (N is a natural number) of the first resolution. Thus, the first photodetector of the array is read by the first shift register drive pulse, and the last photodetector is read by the second shift register drive pulse. COPYRIGHT: (C)2003,JPO
