An ink composition comprising a colorant, a water-soluble organic solvent, water, and a cationic, water-soluble resin, the cationic, water-soluble resin comprising a copolymer comprised of a repeating unit represented by the following formula (I) and/or a repeating unit represented by the following formula (II) and a repeating unit containing a water-soluble group: The ink composition containing a cationic, water-soluble resin can yield an image possessing excellent waterproofness and lightfastness and having no significant feather or bleeding. Use of the above ink composition in combination with an ink composition containing an anionic material can realize an image having no significant color-to-color bleeding.
