<p>A means and method for inserting drivers (located on members 108) into a surgical stapling cartridge (12), including a pallet (10) that holds the cartridge firmly. The pallet (10) has a central slot (40) and laterally positioned lip members (22, 24) that are biased toward the slot (40). The cartridge (12) is positioned in the slot (40) and the lip members (22, 24) are released to extend their lips (26, 28) over the lateral flanges (no indicating numeral) on the cartridge (12), thereby holding the cartridge (12) in position. A finger (54) extends into a recess (62) formed at one end of the cartridge (12), thereby positively positioning the cartridge (12) in the slot (40). The cartridge (12) is released for removal by a tongue (60) inserted between the lip members (22, 24), thereby separating them by displacement.</p> |
