<p>The emulsifiers are sulphito or sulphato betaines specif. of general formula (I):- (X is N, P or S and R1-R5 are the same or different straight-chain or branched aliphatic, alicyclic, araliphatic or aromatic residues with at least one residue having 8C, R4 and R5 may be H, m is 2 or 3 and n is 1 when X is N or P and is 0 when X is S). Olefins are e.g. esters of acrylic acids with alkanols with 1-10C, vinyl-aromatic compds., vinyl esters and 1,3-dienes. The usual catalysts, regulators, etc. may be added to the emulsions. In an example, a mixture of water containing N,N-dimethyl-N-(beta-oleatoethyl)-N-(beta-sulphito-ethyl)-ammoniu- mbetaine, n-dodecyl alcohol/ethylene oxide adduct, N-vinyl-N-methylimidazoliummethanosulphate, H2O2, vinylidine chloride and ethyl acrylate was polymerised with stirring at 55 degrees C. Stable uniform 50% dispersion of copolymer was obtained.</p> |
