PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an agent and a method for easily identifying whether the kind of one plant is the same as that of other plant(s) compared with two or more kinds of vegetative propagated plants and mutually closely resembling ones. SOLUTION: This method comprises the following practice; a kind of plant with vegetative propagation tendency such as gentian, lily or konjak and another kind of plant with seed propagation tendency but being capable of vegetative propagation such as tomato, green pepper or tobacco are inoculated and infected with plant virus containing an RNA with a specific base sequence to obtain the respective kinds of plants infected with the virus, which are then put to vegetative propagation, and the corresponding RNAs of the resultant propagated plants are examined to identify the kinds of the plants.
