PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To obtain a high quality record output through stabilized recording operation by acquiring an environmental temperature appropriately. SOLUTION: In the ink jet recorder comprising a temperature detecting element outputting a signal depending on the temperature and performing recording on a recording medium by means of an ink jet recording head performing recording by ejecting ink, temperature information is acquired based on an output signal from the temperature detecting element and stored in a nonvolatile storage means, state of a flag is set, depending on the necessity for acquiring the temperature information, state of the flag is checked (S202) after power is turned on (S201), and the operation is controlled to acquire the temperature information depending on the setting state of the flag.
