PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an image pickup device capable of obtaining an excellent image from a plurality of objects subjected to proper exposure.

SOLUTION: The number of major light emission times (the number of major exposure times) and a proper light emission amount at major light emission are automatically set in response to the luminance distribution of a result of photometry of reflected light from objects by a plurality of preliminary light emission operations to implement major exposure for a plurality of times, image data obtained by the major exposure are subjected to gamma correction by a gamma value in response to the major exposure and the resulting image data are composed.
