<P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To suppress interference of waves of vibration to be propagated to a distal end of a drive shaft with a wave of a vibration to be reflected at the distal end of the shaft, due to elongation and contraction of an electromechanical transducer. <P>SOLUTION: The impact drive unit comprises a drive shaft 24, an electromechanical transducer 25 mounted at one end of the drive shaft 24 to make the drive shaft 24 expand or contract axially, in response to a drive pulse, and a movable unit 27 slidably supported to the shaft 24 and sliding axially on the shaft 24 by axially displacing the shaft 24, while the transducer 25 is expanded or contracted in response to the drive pulse.
