<p><P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an electronic manual which is convenient to every user. <P>SOLUTION: The explanation of a certain operation is divided into a plurality of steps by an electronic manual, and subjects are determined for each of those steps for explanation. Standard pictures 111, 112, and 114 are provided to indicate the outlines of the subjects, and detail pictures 121 and 122 are provided as necessary for each of those steps. Thus, it is possible to provide sufficient information to users in intermediate and upper classes by executing the transaction of only the standard pictures. At the time of displaying the standard pictures in a fixed time or more, the transition to the detail pictures is automatically executed in the steps where the detail pictures are available.
