PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an image processing apparatus that applies proper transfer control to each of transfer operations in the case that two images or more are simultaneously transferred between a buffer area of a primary storage section (image memory 42) and a secondary storage section (HDD 48) and that a single image is transferred. SOLUTION: After data compression conversion is applied to a received image by DMA control of a memory control section 43, the image processing apparatus performs a series of processes to transfer converted data to the HDD 48 through the buffer area of the image memory 42. In this case, depending on whether or not a request of a plurality of data transfer (simultaneous transfer) is made, the image processing apparatus selects either of division (number of a plurality of times) transfer and batch (one time) transfer. In the case of transferring one image through division, the capacity equivalent to the division transfer amount to the HDD is reserved for the buffer area, and in the case of batch transfer, the capacity equivalent to the batch transfer amount is reserved for the buffer area so as to optimize (transfer in the shortest time and effective utilization of the storage area) each transfer operation.
