PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an image processing system and an image processing method capable of providing a natural gradation change to a stripe noise area caused at image reading so as to correct the noise area. SOLUTION: The image processing system 1 receives an original from a scanner 11 via a device I/F section 31. The image processing system activates a foreign material detection section 34 to detect the stripe noise area from the received image data. The image processing system activates a foreign material correction processing section 35 to calculate a correction pixel value for pixels in the noise area on the basis of pixel values of pixels in the vicinity of pixels in the detected noise area. Then the image processing system replaces the pixels in the noise area with the calculated correction pixel values.
