PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a method for treating white water of a paper-making system in high efficiency in the case of using a paper-making material compounded with mechanical pulp and waste paper to cause the difficulty in the recovery of valuable materials. SOLUTION: The purpose is achieved by using an anionic water-soluble polymer in combination with a mixture of (A) a cationic water-soluble polymer containing 5-100 mol% cationic structural unit selected from specific units and 0-95 mol% nonionic structural unit and (B) an amphoteric water-soluble polymer containing 5-70 mol% cationic structural unit selected from specific units, 5-50 mol% anionic structural unit and 0-90 mol% nonionic structural unit.
