PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a sliding member excellent in wear properties and frictional properties, not damaging an opposite material and having good compatibility with the opposite material. SOLUTION: The surface of the sliding member 1 is a sliding layer 5 composed of a synthetic resin containing 1-70 wt.% solid lubricant the surface of which is coated with diamond-like carbon. Since the diamond-like carbon has hard property, wear properties of the sliding member 1 are improved. The frictional coefficient is reduced and damage to the opposite material is prevented due to lubricating property of the diamond-like carbon and the solid lubricant. Wetting property of the solid lubricant with the synthetic resin is improved by coating the diamond-like carbon with the solid lubricant. As a result, lowering of the resin strength is prevented even when the solid lubricant is added in a large amount, and high frictional properties are maintained, because release of the solid lubricant from the synthetic resin in the friction is reduced.
