摘要 PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide improved countermeasures in the case that a deviation between actual fuel pressure and target fuel pressure is larger with the malfunction of a fuel supply system for a direct injection engine. SOLUTION: The engine 1 having a fuel injection valve 18 for injecting a fuel directly into a combustion chamber 6 for changing over a combustion mode between a stratified charge combustion mode and a homogeneous combustion mode in accordance with an operated condition, comprises a fuel supply system 20 for supplying a fuel to the fuel injection valve 18, a fuel pressure sensor 53 for detecting the pressure of the fuel to be supplied to the fuel injection valve 18 by the supply system 20, and an ECU 50 for setting a target value for the pressure of the fuel to be supplied to the fuel injection valve 18 in accordance with the operated condition of the engine 1, controlling the fuel supply system 20 so that the deviation between the target fuel pressure and the actual fuel pressure detected by the sensor 53 is smaller, and changing the mode of fuel injection of the fuel injection valve 18 to continue the stratified charge combustion mode when the fuel pressure deviation is larger than a preset value during executing the stratified charge combustion mode.
