PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To obtain a carbon isotope ratio in food for comparing with an origin isotope ratio to estimate or specify the manufacturing raw material or the like of the food since a carbon stable isotope ratioδ<SP>13</SP>C greatly differs in rice, wheat (C3 plant), maize, and sugar cane (C4 plant) in a plant. SOLUTION: Carbon in a sample food is recovered as a carbon dioxide gas by a sealed tube combustion method, the carbon isotope ratio is obtained by a stable isotope specific mass analyzer and is compared with the carbon isotope ratio of an origin raw material, and the deviation from<SP>13</SP>C/<SP>12</SP>C of an international standard sample is expressed by permillage in the carbon isotope ratio in the sample food.
