PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a new method for producing an optically active 3- aminocarboxylic acid and its ester. SOLUTION: This method for producing the optically active 3-aminocarboxylic acid and its ester comprises a series of removing a chiral auxiliary group from an acid addition salt represented by formula IIIA or IIIB to give a salt represented by formula IVA or IVB and successively converting the salt into a free base represented by formula IA or IB.
