PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a resin-coated steel wire rod having high surface hardness and abrasion resistance, excellent in knitting processability, scarcely causing decoloration and lowering of toughness with time and excellent in weather resistance. SOLUTION: This resin-coated steel wire rod is obtained by providing a resin coat layer around a steel wire rod, and the resin coat layer is composed of a polyester resin composition composed of 10-80 mass% polyarylate and 90-20 mass% copolyester resin consisting mainly of terephthalic acid/ethylene glycol.
