PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a liquid crystal display device with improved display characteristics. SOLUTION: A pixel electrode 8 is disposed in a matrix and corresponding to a switching element 3. A plurality of micro slits 21 are formed on the periphery of the pixel electrode 8. The slits form 90°angles with the outer periphery with 7μm pitch and individually have a triangular shape with a long tapered tip. Directions of falling down of liquid crystal molecules are specified to be the directions in parallel with the micro slits 21. By forming the micro slits 21, regions to define the alignment directions of the liquid crystal molecules 22 increase and the position of the center 24 of a vortex 23 of a schlieren structure is stabilized. Owing to the stabilization of the position of the center of the vortex 23 of the schlieren structure, the imbalance of the areas of viewing angle compensation regions and asymmetry of the viewing angle disappear and the viewing angle is widened.
