PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a method for producing an asymmetric disulfide in high yield on an industrial scale with slight by-produced harmful substances. SOLUTION: This method comprises the step 1 represented by reaction formula (I); R<SP>1</SP>SSR<SP>1</SP>+3Cl<SB>2</SB>→2R<SP>1</SP>SCl<SB>3</SB>(wherein R<SP>1</SP>is a 1-4C alkyl), the step 2 of dehydrochlorinating by heating the alkylsulfenyl trichloride obtained by the step 1 into the correspondingα-chloroalkylsulfenyl chloride, represented by reaction formula (II) R<SP>1</SP>SCl<SB>3</SB>→ClR<SP>2</SP>SCl+HCl (wherein, R<SP>2</SP>is an alkylene group derived from R<SP>1</SP>), and the step 3 of reacting theα-chloroalkylsulfenyl chloride obtained by the step 2 with an alkyl mercaptan to obtain the objective asymmetric disulfide, represented by reaction formula (III); ClR<SP>2</SP>SCl+R<SP>3</SP>SH→ClR<SP>2</SP>SSR<SP>3</SP>(wherein, R<SP>3</SP>is a 1-18C alkyl).
