PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a cleaner in which toner is securely recovered without agglomerating recovered toner, as a cleaner being used for recovering toner remaining on the surface of an image carrier. SOLUTION: The cleaner has a blade that scrapes residual toner on the surface of the image carrier in contact with the surface of the rotating cylindrical image carrier, a case that receives the scraped toner, and a toner carrying means, disposed within the case, that carries the toner toward one end of the case and discharges the toner from an opening made in the end of the case. In the cleaner, an elastic member is provided in adjacent to the opening and in the area surrounded by the blade, case, and toner carrying means. The blade scrapes the residual toner on the surface of the image carrier in contact with the elastic member. COPYRIGHT: (C)2003,JPO
