A positive displacement pump with an accurately defined stroke controlled by a servo motor delivers a measured quantity of the sample to a reaction chamber, fitted with a magnetic stirrer, into which various reagents may be fed in turn from a multistation feeder system, the volume of free space in the reaction chamber being fixed. One station is connected to a closed chamber containing a gas absorber and others allow a vacuum to be drawn in the reaction chamber. A recording pressure gauge determines the pressure difference between the partial pressure of a gas liberated by treatment of the sample with a reagent after the drawing of the vacuum and the pressure remaining under the same volume conditions after the chamber is connected to the gas absorber. This differential pressure is the scale of measurement for the gas content of the liquids.
|
