The server (24) downloads ring tones to mobile telephones (10), and has a database (27) containing digitized musical fragments, an input (26) to receive musical fragments and a means of comparing the input with fragments stored in the database. A match between input fragment and stored fragments identifies the fragment and can be used as an authorization to transmit, or to trigger royalties.
