PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an apparatus and a method for turning a thick plate by which the thick plate is turned in order to change the rolling direction of the thick plate in the rolling of the thick plate. SOLUTION: On both sides of the conveying direction of the thick plate, the beginning of the turning of the thick plate is assisted by imparting force in the diagonal positions of the tip and the tail end of the thick plate by hydraulic pressure by jetting liquid against the side faces in the vicinities of the tip and the tail end of the thick plate.
