PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To automatically adjust the pressure force of a gland packing on the basis of the size of the gap between the gland packing forming an outside seal and the rotary slide surface of a mixing shaft, in the shaft seal device of the mixing shaft of a mixing machine such as a concrete mixer or the like for mixing the material in a mixing tank by rotating the mixing shaft having a plurality of mixing blades attached thereto. SOLUTION: The shaft part seal of the mixing shaft 11 for preventing the leak from a mixing tank is equipped with inside and outside seals 21 and 23 respectively formed from gland packings, two seal presses 22 and 26 for pressing the respective seals 21 and 23, a pressure means 50 for applying pressing force to two seal press means 22 and 26, a compressed fluid chamber 31 formed between the inside and outside seals 21 and 23 in the axial direction of both seals and a detection means 32 for detecting the size of the gap between the outside seal 23 and the mixing shaft 11. A pressing force control means 60 for adjusting the pressing force of the pressure means 50 corresponding to the detection value of the detection means 32 is provided. COPYRIGHT: (C)2003,JPO
