<P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To efficiently fit a lid to an opening of a container body. <P>SOLUTION: In a metal container manufacturing method in which the metal lid 3 having a surface shape slightly smaller than the opening is fitted to the container body 1 having the opening 2 comprises a step of inserting the lid in the opening, a step of allowing the high frequency to run in a coil provided on the periphery of the container body to deform the opening in a contracting direction, and a step of welding the lid supported in the opening by the contraction of the opening to the container body. The container body is connected to one electrode of a DC power source, and the lid is connected to the other electrode to allow the current to run.
